Christmas Buffet Planning - Essential Guide
|
Hosting a great buffet can be very stressful, it can also be a complete pleasure, with the right amount of presentation you will be able to spend time with your guests and even enjoy the food you spent so much time lovingly creating.
We've pulled together some great ideas to help make your buffet go as perfectly as possible. To make it as simple as possible to read and allow you to skip to the bit you want we've broken it down into sections; planning, buying and the big day.
Planning
How many people? Where are you going to host your buffet? Any special dietary requirements? Children and Adults? Do you have the space for all the food on the big day? do you have the right amount of dishes to serve it all on?
These are just a few of the things you should be thinking about, we're sure you'll think of many more. Once you know how many people you'll need to start thinking about the food, when to buy it and where you can store it. Freezers are a great place to store food made in advance, i often make Sausage Rolls, Cheese and Onion Bites, Quiche and other food in advance and store it in the freezer - it can then easily be defrosted and cooked fresh on the day.
If you've got children coming along it's always nice to prepare something special for them, particularly if they are small children. Over the next few weeks we'll be gathering together some great ideas for kids of all ages.
On the Day
On the day you should have a check list of the things you need to do, start in order, if you've got lots to put in the oven make sure you know how long each thing takes and what temperature it needs to be cooked at. There is nothing worse than the door bell ringing, guests at the door and still having 4 things to cook which all need differing times and temperatures.
If you've got things to keep cold and are short of fridge space why not take advantage of the cool weather and put your items in sealed containers under cover outside. Perhaps you've got an area off the floor in the garage or a covered area in the garden you can pull the patio table under and stack things in sealed containers on here.
The main thing to do is to enjoy yourself.
